What is "Mermaiding?"

Are you familiar with Cosplay? Or maybe you've played "dress-up" as a child? Well, Mermaiding is very similar to both of those! Mermaiding involves dressing up as a mermaid and oftentimes involves swimming in a mermaid tail with your feet bound together in what is called a "monofin." Not all mermaids swim though, as mermaiding can also be done on land by simply wearing a mermaid costume and playing out the role of a mermaid. While some individuals do take up mermaiding as a profession, many enjoy it as nothing more than a creative hobby.

When you boil it down to the very basics, a Professional Mermaid is a public entertainer and a performer. Mermaids and Mermen are often hired to perform at fairs, festivals, and other special events, and make appearances both in the water and on dry land. Depending on the type of event that they are hired for, mermaids may interact with guests, perform underwater stunts, or simply serve as an interesting addition to the decor at a party.
