VIRAL VIDEOS OF RIVER MERMAIDS
Have you seen the viral videos of the “real mermaid in a river?” These videos have sparked a lot of debate online and have been viewed by millions and millions of people. Some people are claiming that the videos do, in fact, show footage of a real mermaid. Others argue that the video shows a performer in a costume, an animatronic or an AI creation.
Haven’t seen the videos yet? Check out the YouTube Playlist below to see a few of them.
IS IT A REAL MERMAID OR A HOAX?
After watching some of the videos of this mermaid (and the other mermaids), you may be wondering… are they real mermaids, or are they fake?
Well, allow me to clarify things for you. All of the mermaids in the videos shown feature me in one of my various mermaid costumes. I am a professional mermaid performer who swims in natural bodies of water all over the world. So is this mermaid CGI or AI? No. Is she a real mermaid? Well, not exactly. While I am a “real mermaid” to many, and may be one of the closest things to a real mermaid that you may ever see, technically, I’m just a girl in a costume. BUT I AM A REAL PERSON! So you can call me a real mermaid and I will 100% not complain. I do this for children’s events, and in their eyes, I am real. You’re more than welcome to believe in me too. :’)

WHY DID THE MERMAID CROSS THE RIVER?
If you are like many of the viewers of my river mermaid videos, you are probably wondering why I chose to swim in a freshwater river instead of the ocean, since mermaids live in salt water, right? Not all mermaids swim in the ocean, actually (just look up Mami Wata or Lara, if you don’t believe me!). Mermaid Phantom (the silver and purple mermaid) is technically a Lake Michigan mermaid, since Lake Michigan is the body of water nearest to me. The river that she is seen swimming in most often actually connects directly to Lake Michigan, so doesn’t it make sense that she’d want to check it out? She isn’t a river mermaid though. Just a lake mermaid. :)
Mermaid Shadow, on the other hand, is a river mermaid. If you would like to see videos of her, you can click here to watch a video playlist featuring her (some of the videos were filmed in Lake Michigan, since Shadow does ultimately get dumped out of rivers into other bodies of water lol).
Anyway, thank you for reading my blog post and watching my videos. I really, really appreciate your support!
