Mermaid Swimming in the Colors of Fall
In October of 2019, a mermaid was seen swimming in a small lake in Northern Michigan. This mermaid was none other than Lake Michigan’s very own “Mermaid Phantom.” Phantom is a very well-known mermaid in Michigan. While she is most often seen in Traverse City and Leelanau County, she has been seen swimming all over the state of Michigan and has even been spotted in Singapore!
At the time of this “mermaid sighting,” she was seen swimming on a very chilly fall day in Kehl Lake, a small freshwater lake in Northport, Michigan. As she splashed around in the lake, ice balls fell from the sky and the strong wind whirled through the colorful autumn trees that surrounded her. It was 42 degrees the day she was seen swimming in Kehl Lake… a very typical fall day in Northern Michigan.

The All Seasons Mermaid
Since Mermaid Phantom is a Michigan mermaid, she is an “all-seasons” mermaid by nature. While she does enjoy her summer swims in Lake Michigan the most, she isn’t afraid to get her fins wet even in the colder seasons of the year. This mermaid swims in Spring, Summer and Fall. And when the ice covers Lake Michigan in the Winter, she can still be found sitting in the snow or on top of the ice. However, in the colder months (Spring, Fall and Winter), she does prefer to be on land or indoors exploring the wonderful (and sometimes chaotic) world of the humans rather than freezing her fins off in the water.
If you would like to meet this mermaid, you can invite her to visit you on land during any special festivals, parties or celebrations that you may have. She can sit indoors or outdoors (weather permitting) on any non-abrasive surface to interact with you and your guests, or can swim in pools, tanks or lakes for added ambiance (weather permitting). Mermaid Phantom especially LOVES taking part in public celebrations and festivals where she can spread the magic of mermaids to all that she meets… even if the festival ISN’T mermaid related and even if it ISN’T in Michigan.
